hopeful2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Hi guys, I figured it might be nice to start a thread for those of use who like to use our personal iPads in clinic and class. I need help finding a good note taking application that can take typed or stylus notes on powerpoints or just a blank document. It would be nice to find something compatible with Microsoft word. Also, something that works offline, otherwise google documents seems to be sufficient. I really like to take notes right on the PowerPoint slides when I hand write notes but haven't found an application that is easy to use. Also, for applications to use with clients I have a couple really good resources. I follow a Facebook page called "Technology in Education" that posts deals for apps, new apps and just some nice resources. Also, there's a website called appymall.com that has great sales and free apps for use in the clinic. Most of these are focused towards children though. Anyone else have any recommendations or ideas? Thanks! lgwslp 1
sarahsahara Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I like using "Notability" on my iPad. What I like most about it is, I can switch back and forth between typing and using a stylus to write things in like charts/tables. It also has a recording function, so I can record lectures. I'm pretty sure it's possible to import power points, word documents, and even PDF's as well and write on them. Unfortunately, I'm not tech-savvy enough to completely figure out how to do it. It was a couple dollars but completely worth it. I also got "Evernote" but I haven't used it because I didn't feel like switching apps in the middle of the semester. However, I hear it's a very good app as well. aucinema 1
emikate51 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) I just use Adobe Reader on my ipad. I use all the powerpoints the professors upload then download them to Adobe Reader and type right on the slide, you can also highlight, underline, etc on the slide. I have found tons of good apps on Pintrest for therapy and my clinical instructor recommended a few as well, even just some games to use as motivation once they complete an activity. aucinema Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) I second the "Notability" vote. I download all of my class powerpoints into the application and am then able to take notes on them, highlight them, and draw on them. I also download journal articles that I need to read into Notability so I can then have all of them in one central location. I find reading on the iPad much more pleasant than reading on the computer, especially since you can highlight with a simple finger swipe and easily take hand written notes. The app also lets you create subjects and dividers within those subjects for easy organization. I also highly recommend dropbox if you aren't already using it. I upload all of notes to dropbox, which I also have installed on my laptop so that they are accessible to me no matter what device I am on. This is good for peace of mind as well as organization. I find that I like iCal for managing my calender, but I also use "Wunderlist" for day-by-day to-do lists, which one thing that I feel ical really lacks. It's a simple app, but it works. I also recommend looking for a good voice recording app. I'm currently forgetting the name of the one I use and don't have my iPad on me at the moment, but there are several out there that are pretty decent. LuxAurorae Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Notability has a recording option within the app if you're interested. I love Notability! I used to type up my notes and mark up powerpoints on it too. I say "used to" only because I recently switched to another tablet, but Notability alone actually made the switch very hard.
slphopefully Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Do you guys have regular sized iPads or iPad minis? I want to invest in one but can't decide if one is better than the other for therapy/personal use. The only thing I can think of is the general greater surface area of the iPad, but the mini seems much more compact. I would appreciate any input!
