Gregorius Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Hi, I have a rather unusual issue and hope someone can give me an advice. I have an M.A. in history, and Latin was one of my minors. In fact, I was very good at it and I have more than one year coaching experience. Do you think I could apply for teaching jobs in the UK? I have been noticing quite attractive offers. However, I see that many schools expect you to teach Homer! Does it mean you need to let them translate from Odyssey in original? It is difficult to believe, because it's a very demanding text... I'm not sure my poor Greek would be enough (not at the moment). I would be very grateful to you if someone could share some thoughts with an outsider... All the best, Gregorius
BeatrizBear Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Homeric Greek is different from all other types of Greek, so you might take a lot at it first to see how comfortable you are with it. Some of the stuff you'll find in Homer are unique to Homer and you won't see in other texts. I wouldn't call it difficult, but you'll definitely need to familiarize yourself with a new style.
