lia14 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Hey there guys! I would like to study economics/business in Germany, but I have a really big problem: I don't know where! After a lot of research - browsing through university rankings, asking for advice from friends who already study there and even taking into consideration the financial issue (Munich is out of the question because of that), I still ended up with a pretty extensive list of universities. As a last resort, I decided to ask you, guys, to help me compare these universities and eventually choose maximum 5 of them, cause there's nobody else more qualified to do this than the grad cafe. Here's the list: 1) Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg 2) Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main 3) Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin 4) Georg-August-Universität Göttingen 5) Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster 6) Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg 7) Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg 8) Universität Leipzig 9) Freie Universität Berlin 10) Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena 11) Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg 12) Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) I am also open to suggestions, in case I missed out on any great German university out there! Thank you in advance, Lia
Slutsky_Walrus Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Repec isn't a definite rankings list, but sometimes it can be useful. http://ideas.repec.org/top/top.germany.html
Ellu Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) Hi Lia, I study economics in Germany, so I might be able to help you out a bit. From you post I assume you are thinking about Msc programs? In economics? If so you defintely missed the programs of Mannheim and Bonn. They have two of the best economic departments in Germany, research wise (which might not always equal the best msc program). You should also add Cologne to your list list I'd say. From things I've heard and reputationwise - obviously without knowing all the programs - I'd say the three above + Frankfurt a.M. and maybe (?) Berlin are the best programs. But then it depends on whether you want to do pure economics, or a mix of business and economics. Bonn offers no business at all (and is rather theoretical besides). Berlin I am not sure. Mannhein, Cologne, and Frankfurt (best for finance I guess) all offer business programs as well, I don't know about the possiblity to study a mixture though. Good luck with your choice. Cheers!
