I work in child language development, and we often need to create child-friendly visual stimuli. I'm curious as to what sort of strategies people use to design visual stimuli. Do you draw them by hand/find resources online/use programs like Flash/Photoshop, etc.?

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but it was Picture Day the other day at my elementary school, and the kids loved the photographers stock image of spaghetti. His assistant would hold it up and he would say "Look at the noodle noodle!" If they didn't erupt in laughter, they at least made big grins. You'd question the humor, but then again I thought it was hilarious too.

But yeah, stock images.
