Funding for Doctoral program in a State University in USA

I am an international student.....

 

I got admission for doctoral program in USA.....

 

I have no information about assistantships till date... \

 

My advisor told me that he would try his best to get me funding....

 

On the negative side, is there any chance that he might not be able to help me....

What field are you in? Paying for a PhD out of pocket is unsustainable in most fields.
