apply_psych Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Hi, I am going to take the GRE sub psychology on Oct. I am wondering is there any website or place I could find the former GRE SUB psychology questions which were recalled by the former exam takers? What else, is there anyone willing to share your experience preparing the GRE SUB psychology? Many many thanks!
spunky Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) just go over maybe your intro psych textbooks and one of the guides they sell out there and you'll be fine, i think. but pay att'n to the methods/statistics section. they love to throw in a few trick questions (ok, maybe not trick questions but the kind of question that makes sure you understand the methods you're using rather than just being able to mindlessly apply them). PsychGirl1 Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I used the Princeton Review and Kaplan study books and I did just fine. Don't overthink it, just learn the material!
BeingThere Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) Have you downloaded the practice book from the ETS website? http://www.ets.org/gre/subject/about/content/psychology That's the only thing I used and I did really well. The practice test was very similar to the actual test as far as the topics covered. If you did well in your intro psych courses and basic stats/methods course - and remember what you learned in them - you should be fine with just this. Edited July 12, 2014 by Bren2014
kaswing Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Relatedly, do you think it's too late for someone who doesn't have a psych undergrad background (I took a course, but it was 5+ years ago) to study for and take this exam? Most of my programs have it optional or not required, but it would be nice to apply to the one or two I'm interested in otherwise, but eliminated because of the test.
PsychGirl1 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Nope, I was not a psych major and I took it. It's offered in October, right? I would say if you study most evenings and weekends, even with no psych background, 4-6 weeks of studying should be fine to get an excellent score.
apply_psych Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 I really appreciate all the suggestions from all you guys!! Thanks a lot! By the way, is there any specific intro psych book you recommend for the GRE psychology? thanks!
