erinc Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Dear community, I am a US citizen currently living in Japan. I would like to start an online MSW program while I am living here, but don't know if any program exists for students living abroad. Does anyone have any information? Thank you all so much for your help!
TLC Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 When I broached this subject with USC years ago, I was told that the answer was no because it would be diffifcult to ensure a field placement. I countered and asked if I could have a field placement on a military base and they said it may be possible. I just went over to the website and the answer remains the same. Provisions may only be made for active duty military (providing a placement is available). I would venture to say that other programs would have similar responses. Let's hope others chime in. erinc 1
TLC Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/Information/DistanceEducation.aspx I looked on the CSWE's website and it looks like some schools accept international students so please forgive my erroneous information in my pervious post. I have attached the link above and some of the schools below. I cant tell whether CSUN means international students are welcome to apply (I know that you are a citizen) or if its available to international students. University of New England (ME) Open to students anywhere in the US and internationally Advanced Standing and Traditional Track No campus visits required Asynchronous learning with regular and accelerated options available Individual, Family, and Group Practice (clinical-based) or Organizational and Community Practice (policy-based) tracks More information: http://socialwork.une.edu Catholic University of America (DC) Online MSW program Part-Time, 3.5 year program using asynchronous instruction with 24/7 access and support Clinical Concentration Open to students anywhere in the United States , as well as service members stationed around the world Field placements in student's community No requirement for on-campus presence More information: http://online.cua.edu/msw/online-master-of-social-work California State University, Northridge (CA) Online MSW program using asynchronous instruction, 24/7 access to classes Open to students anywhere in the United States International students welcome dependent on field site availability and appropriate TOEFL scores Urban Family Studies Concentration More Information: http://tsengcollege.csun.edu/programs/MSW Edited July 28, 2014 by TLC

Thank you. It's hard just to know where to start sometimes, but this is great information. Options are certainly limited, but I'm not ready to give up the possibility yet Thanks again!
