bakalamba Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Since classes started, I've been using the app "My Study Life" (also an app-free online version), because I quickly realized it's confusing to have a dozen weekly class assignments clogging my to-do list which I normally reserve for important stuff like getting oil changes, running an important paper to some University office, etc. It works pretty well, and can also keep a calendar of your class meetings. And each task has a scroll bar, rather than a checkbox, so you can feel somewhat fulfilled when you complete a quarter of a final paper, I guess.
Lifesaver Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a cheap hand-written planner for my assignments. Filofax refills are going to cost me double if not more, and I've found that inputting assignments into my phone as they come won't work because I can't use my phone in class. And I'm a little too scatterbrained to remember to go back to all of them and input them later. Thanks for the input, folks.
toasterazzi Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I've tried to-do lists, and they ultimately don't work out very well for me. But I do keep track of important dates with GCal. I've used paper planners before (mostly throughout high school and undergrad), but I don't think they'd really suit my needs now.
lyrehc Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I use Outlook's calendar which syncs through my university account to both my phone and my computers. I also have monthly whiteboard calendars mounted on my desk in the TA office that I write major appointments and assignments as a second line of defense against forgetting something.
gellert Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I use google calendars for scheduling participants, scheduling RAs, classes, meetings, social events, etc. I use a giant dry erase academic year wall calendar to keep track of long-term goals/deadlines. I was inspired by fuzzylogician and downloaded workflowy and started using it -- that's been a serious lifesaver, especially combined with the 'reminder' app on my macbook and the 'desktop reminder' program on my Dell desktop.

Glad it's helping -- I've been really enjoying it. I'm a lists person so having them organized and always with me is great, and being able to search, hide/unhide entries, and share them is a nice bonus.
