trix Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Oh no Jordy! I am soooo sorry! I wish I was in your region so I could map out a game plan with ya! At lease now YOU KNOW! Have you explored other options? Are you in the field or did you take leveling courses? I have not recieved ANYTHING...NO REJECTION OR ACCEPTANCE! I dont know if there is anything I can do to help but if you need a friend...I am here! I know thats not much !
mgm1123 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I will be nervously checking my email all day!!! Sorry to the ones that did not get accepted... I am an SLPA also and this will be my second round of applying to grad school.. This is the first program I have applied to for this time around. I am planning on applying to other programs but wish I just knew already for this one so I know what next steps to take for other schools applications. Good luck to us still waiting!
Porter-Slp Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I am sorry guys! I still patiently and faithfully waiting to hear back. Good luck to everyone still waiting!
keysmith Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I was denied a few minutes ago as well. Honestly, I feel relieved to know.
JoD3o Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Denied, as well, this morning, in an email from Sue Colton. Region 10.
trix Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Well guys we TRIED! I AM RELIEVED TO KNOW! Can anyone elaborate on how we recieve our slpA license now that we are not acceptd into program ?
Erack Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 Trix I'm sorry, don't give up! This was my third year applying so I know how you're feeling but it will happen for you! You can go to dshs.state.tx.us, search assistant licence and it will walk you through applying for an SLP-A license.
Jeana Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Well my friends, I was also denied. Competition must have been pretty stiff. Congrats to all of you who were accepted. And thanks to everyone on this board for being awesome support through this process. It was nice to have others to vent to who understood how I was feeling. Best of luck to you all in your futures
trix Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Looks like you have to have your BA and I don't. Kind of confused.
JoD3o Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 We just gotta keep chuggin' along, guys! I know it's even hard for me to hear it, but other opportunities will present themselves. Eyes open. Chins up! Best of luck to all of you <3
mgm1123 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 denied also right After posting on here this morning. Yes, you have to have your bachelors degree to get your SLPA license or be done with your leveling courses. Is anyone else applying to any other programs in Texas for the fall? Trying not to get completely discouraged by this one denial but I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed!
trix Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I will be done with leveling courses next semester. But I dont understand what to do next. I have heard varying explanations.
Porter-Slp Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Well I got denied as well! They sent the email this morning I just didn't know it because the email got sent to my junk mail folder instead. I find it kind of funny that it was sent to the junk folder. Anyways congrats to everyone who was accepted and God has something else in mind for us who wasn't!!! I know it's hard to stay positive due to the disappointment! But keep yalls head up!!
SLPtobee Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Trix, I have a good friend who leveled through TWU, but didn't get into the TETN program the first time around. Basically, the leveling program gives you the coursework you need, but not the 25 hours of observation and 25 hours of practicum you need in order to be licensed. In order to get those, you will need to find a school district or an SLP who is willing to work with you to get you those hours. Once you have them, you can apply for licensure. My friend got her hours over the summer through the SLPs at the school district she had already been working for as a teacher. She was then hired as an assistant for a couple of years, re-applied and GOT IN to the next TETN cycle. The work experience really helped. She is now a C'ed SLP and loving it. There's hope!
SLPtobee Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Go to this link: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/speech/sp_forms.shtm Check out the "Clinical Deficiency Plan for an Assistant Worksheet" for more info on getting the hours you need to license. The "Clinical Deficiency Plan for an Assistant" is what would have to be filled out by your prospective supervisor, who is working with you to get your hours (I think they would have to hire you in the end, so keep that in mind). As far as documentation, you would just need a generic log that documents the dates, durations, and nature of your observation/ practicum hours. You need the specific forms above, but I don't think you need a specific log per se, as long as it is signed off by the supervising SLP. Call the State Board of Examiners for SLP to double check, though: (512) 834-6627. They should be able to give you all the info you need.
trix Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Thanks so much...you have been more help than anyone I have called. I am looking into other programs. But most seem too competitive to gain entry or WAY TO EXPENSIVE for my poor self to afford. Depression has officially sunk in! THANKS AGAIN!
