itismohamed Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Hey guys, I am writing a paper and just wondering if I could get some help on some of the questions below: In Mill’s opinion, what limitations, if any, should there be on this right to free speech? In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that “f all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.” What is Mill’s justification for this argument? Thanks in advance guys! Vene, guttata, itismohamed and 1 other 1 3

ExponentialDecay Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Mills often found his arguments in the minority, so he thought, what the hell, I'm gonna become an influential philosopher and write an article that will make all those assholes sorry. That's what he told me was his justification, anyway.
ColtonLong Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Could be related to The Harm Principle. Or maybe it has to do with the Categorical Imperative. Much more likely: there's an Evil Demon casting an illusion around us all so this website doesn't actually exist. Never liked Descartes myself.
