applefangirl Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hello, I understand that Master's students generally are not guaranteed funding like PhD students are. However, I have heard that Master's students may be offered leftover funding. Is this the case at most schools? If so, would this information would be available to students at the time they apply? I also have heard that students may be given assistantships after they arrive to the university, is this generally a common thing? So do the majority of masters' students receive some kind of tuition aid through this method?
MathCat Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 In the US it is very common for Master's students to be entirely unfunded, not even eligible for TAs (I believe). However, in Canada, it is typical for Master's students to be fully funded. The answer depends a lot on the country you are in.
Icydubloon Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 It depends on the specific school and department.
