CBG321 Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Does anyone that has been or is currently going to Loma Linda have information on how potentially going out of state for the last 2 quarters works? I've emailed and been told you may go out of state not to another University but to a hospital or school to do your fulltime clinical stuff for 2 quarters. I'm mostly curious on what determines the state you go to. What determines if you go because I was told not everyone is sent out of state. And lastly is it difficult to find housing for such a short term lease in potentially non-university cities? If anyone can help me figure these details out i'd love to hear from them!
beeslp Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I'm a first year grad student at LLU. Basically, you have that option to do your full time placements out of state. Alot of stu dents in my cohort are from out of state or far away. CBG321 1
CBG321 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Thank you! How do you like LLU's program so far? I'm interested in applying next Fall!
beeslp Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 CBG321, I posted this comment below in the other Loma Linda University thread:I'm currently in the program as a 1st year graduate student. I really love the program. There are 31 students in our cohort. The professors and staff are very helpful and understanding. It is a Christian university and I would say that the majority in our cohort are SDA. I have not experienced anyone pushing religion. Classes are 3 nights a week. Most classes are taught in problem based learning format, very different from lecture format. During your first year, you are rotated through a different clinic each quarter which is 1 x a week for 4 hours or so. Everyone will have educational, medical, autism, and another clinic usually voice, or accent mod, or stuttering clinic. During your second year, you take classes in the summer and fall quarter, then winter and spring quarter you do your full time education and medical setting rotations. You are required to take and pass the Praxis however there are no comps! If you have any specific questions, please post or message me. Good luck! jmjslpca and CBG321 2
jmjslpca Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 beeslp, when you say 3 nights a week for class, what time do classes usually begin & end? I've applied to LLU for Fall 2015 & am holding my breath for an interview call!
beeslp Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Classes are ually 5 to 8 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. There are a few classes that meet at 2 on monday but it is not every week. Portfolio is Usually once a month on Friday morning. Clinic hours are during the day once a week for 3-4 hour block. Theyes also offer graduate assistanships
jmjslpca Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Thanks! I live in Riverside, so LLU is super convenient for me. However, my husband travels, 3-4 days at a time, once a month or so. I'm just trying to get a feel for what kind of child care I might need for my kids when he is out of town. Your info really helps!
sing4142 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 hello, I Applied too! I can relocate offices (rhetoric agency in work for has a lot of offices throughout California) so I'm crossing my fingers too for an interview.
beeslp Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 The program is intense. Be prepared to devote a great deal of your time to schoolwork.
sing4142 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I'm definitely prepared. I plan on working no more than 5 hours a week (just taking one case) but i am moving back in with my parents if all goes well and I get accepted. Fingers crossed
