Hello all,

I am taking the course called Adv Cal this semester for my application for biostat PhD. But I noticed that different universities have different types of Adv Cal. Some mean calculus with multi-variables, others mean more of an analysis type of course. In my case, we are studying Real Mathematical Analysis by Pugh. Do I need to clarify this in any part of my application? If I don't, will it influence my app?

Thank you for any input.

Most US universities consider advanced calculus to be elementary real analysis.  If you have a space in which to describe relevant courses, it would be good to clarify this if it is not clear on the transcript (for example, if it gets translated as "advanced mathematics" it will be ignored).

We know that Chinese transcripts rarely list Real Analysis as such on the transcript, and that the course translated as "Advanced Calculus" usually covers this material. It wouldn't hurt to clarify this somewhere, but I doubt it will be an issue.

Okay, some translations are weird for a foreign transcript indeed.
