The question is that, in general, which option is better: Master with thesis (McGill) or without thesis (U of Toronto). As far as I know, the difference between MASc (with thesis) and MEng (without thesis) is that one is more research-oriented, the latter is more course-oriented. Completing a thesis is a requirement for most PhD applications I would be interested. Thesis seems to be important for a R&D job, but not too necessary in other engineering fields. How do salaries differ between these 2 degrees? Without a thesis, the degree could be done in 1 year instead of the typical 2 years. McGill gives more funding than U of T in this case (the latter only covers tuition fees).

Due to the earlier deadline, I already accepted McGill's offer. Should I even consider U of T's offer at this point of time? The reason I ask is because I prefer Toronto over Montreal as a city and the shorter length (1 year vs 2 years) of the degree.

So you actually did hear from Toronto? I haven't heard a thing from them, not even a rejection. Supposedly last week they were going to send out all decisions. (Edit: Nevermind, I got rejected. It only took them 5 months and 21 days)

Anyways, if you're considering a PhD, then an M.A.Sc degree is a no brainer. As you said, it's a requirement for most PhD programs. You've already accepted McGill's offer, they're giving you better funding, and it's a pretty great university from what I hear.
