swicross90 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 I am recent college graduate currently working for a well-known company in my field. As an undergraduate student, I had 2 internships and 3 research experiences. No publications. My overall GPA was a 3.85+ at an alright university. Graduated with honors, obtained multiple scholarships and had leadership experiences. My recommendations will be strong, two from my internships and one from research. I am applying for Master's programs in Chemical Engineering at Cornell, NCSU, Columbia, CMU and Northwestern. GRE scores: 158Q, 147V, 3AWA. Do I have a chance with these scores?
ssynny Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Hello, I know most, if not all, of those schools require a combined GRE score higher than 310. The other parts of your app are strong, so I really recommend taking the test again if you're set on those schools. The deadlines are pretty close, but you should really just try it again. Magoosh and Kaplan have short term study programs (even as short as a week) to help you boost your score. With that said, it's not entirely impossible to still be admitted if your adviser wants you. Good luck!
swicross90 Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Even for the Master program is 310?
ZebraFinch Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 These are very competitive schools, perhaps apply to more "safe" schools besides these, or re-take the test?
ssynny Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Even for the Master program is 310? Yeah. Masters programs for those schools tend to stick pretty close to their cutoffs with the volume of apps they get, but like I said, admittance is not impossible. ZebraFinch is right. Apply to less competitive schools or re-take. Edited December 16, 2014 by ssynny
prashanna Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 My gre score is 315 will it be sufficient to applying at texas a&m for petroleum engineering??
Guest Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I'm with the 'finding safe school' guy if you are extremely determined to get in for Fall 2015. I tossed Georgetown out the window due to my horrific scores, the competitive work experience aspect, and the tuition. I'm just being realistic for myself, despite it being a great school. I wouldn't still give up the schools 'you' have listed though...but consider other schools too.
dicapino Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 hello....got Q- 161 V-159....would this be enough for texas a&M Ms Mechanical engineering
