I am kind of freaking out right now. I had submitted my apps a week ago to ensure that everything (GRE scores, transcripts, etc.) arrived on time for the Dec. 15 deadlines. However, I noticed a typo in my statement of purpose. I meant to write "...a visual programming language intended to..." but instead wrote "...a visual programming intended to..."

I can image the admission committee thinking that I am not interested enough to read through my statement of purpose, even though I read through it many times and never caught that error...

How much should I be freaking out about this? I feel like I have worked so hard for 4 years and now it has all gone to waste over one small typo...

These next two months are going to be horrible......

We are all only human. Human makes mistakes. Plus, who knows, maybe nobody would notice.

Breathe :)  We are all sweating bullets over little stuff.  If they notice it, my guess it will be no big deal.  Even if you didn't make a typo, I bet you would still be stressing for the next two months.  ohm!  ;)

Life's too short to worry about the SMALL stuff you CAN'T change. Relax. The personal statement is not even the important part of your application. Its about what you've done; Unless you are applying to programs in english ;-)

I can't say I've sat on an admissions committee but something like that wouldn't necessarily make or break you.  I wouldn't worry about it that much really.  Now if you wrote the wrong program or another university, that may make me think some negative thoughts but honestly you missed a word and it may even read well enough that no one will notice.  They don't read these in depth, they skim as well.  I bet I could go back and find a typo or something super minor in my own sop.  Don't stress about it, what is done is done.

I doubt they care about minor typos, since even Professors make tons of mistakes in everything they write and require peer editing.

In one of my SoPs I realized I wrote a POI's last name incorrectly. It was like a mild form of dyslexia or something because they have two last names (way to make it difficult) and I wrote "Professor B-A" instead of "Professor A-B." Hopefully the adcom skims quickly enough that they put the two names together correctly (they're pretty unique names so there's no chance of getting him mixed up with another Prof).

But yeah as you can see we all have our worries. Don't worry, we're all human!
