laquest242 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I'm currently a senior applying to graduate school in education. My applications are due in early January. If I submit them now, before my grades for Fall are available, will schools ask for Fall grades later? Just finished finals, and I'm wondering whether it'd be best for me to submit now (great GPA now), or submit later (GPA might be a bit lower).
eeee1923 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 If you are admitted into the program you will need to submit your final transcript. Since they will most likely see your grades, you might as well submit the most competitive transcript.
laquest242 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Great, thanks. I would much prefer them only to see my current gpa, since it may fall once Fall grades are reported. If anyone knows of schools that ask for grades after the application is submitted, please let me know. I'm an education major.
Chianti Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Seconding eteshoe, grad programs will hound you for your final transcript. I was traveling when admissions decisions were going out and several department heads sent me polite but firm emails reminding me to have transcripts sent. Meanwhile, I was traipsing around Spain. Whoops.
TakeruK Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Maybe it's field dependent, but my grad schools only asked for my final transcript after I already accepted their offer. They just need it to confirm/finalize the registration process. In my field, they make all decisions based on whatever transcripts you send at the time of application!
MathCat Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 In math, it is also standard to only require final transcripts if you accept their offers. They wouldn't expect to see final year grades at all when making decisions, I think. I would submit the transcript you currently have, if you think your new grades will lower your GPA. If you haven't yet gotten those grades, it's the most up to date one you have, so I see nothing wrong with this at all.
