For those applying to MGH, are you doing the Diversity Statement in the supplemental app? I am torn about whether to do it..

I am not sure if I am "diverse" (you wouldn't think so by looking at me...I'm a white female). I am originally from another country and have studied abroad as well.. so I could write about that. I am also from out-of-state, but I assume a large portion of MGH applicants are. I guess I just don't want it to come across as "trying to be diverse, but not really"

I am also wondering if this is used for admissions or scholarships only. Anyone have insight?

Being an immigrant could be an experience you could talk about, but if you don't think that that'll be compelling, then I'd just skip it. I'm sure they get plenty of "trying to be diverse, but not really" statements, and they know them when they see them... I have no idea what they use them for, but my guess would be for scholarships and maybe for admissions decisions in the case of a borderline applicant.
