I am an international student; In 2013, I was admitted at one of the graduate schools in the USA for a doctoral program. I started my first semester of the program in Fall 2013 and I finished 9 hour credit. In the following semester, i transferred to another graduate school in the USA, where i enrolled Spring and Fall 2014 classes. However, things did not go the way I expected, therefore I plan to return to the former graduate school (the one I had my Fall 2013 classes). I contacted the program's department and they advised me to reapply for Fall 2015. My question are: Do I have to mention the reason why I left their program and why i decided to come back in my statement of purpose? In other words, is it helpful to mention my reasons for leaving and coming back to the program? Is it also helpful to include a transcript of my grades of my current school? I hope someone experienced answers my questions.

Thanks in advance

You'll want to definitely mention why you want to go back in your statement. A big part of the SoP is why that department is a good fit for you. Especially because you left, you need to explain why even though you transferred to another school, in the end the first school is the right one for you. When reapplying, they ask you to include transcripts from all schools attended. You would definitely need to upload your transcript from your current school on that part of the app, but you should find out if you need to request transcripts from the school you're going back to. Due to privacy issues, a lot of times departments cannot access your records without your permission. Good luck!!
