aidalb Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Any international applicants in the process at the moment? Or any international applicants been through this process before? How has the experience been different? Have things taken longer to go through? Any differences with interviews, as I take it most international students unless from Canada, will not be able to make it?
lewin Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I'm from Canada, applied to some U.S. schools, and was interviewed at two (not this season). One paid for the whole trip, the other offered $350. In my experience I was treated the same as domestic applicants but maybe there were behind-the-scenes discussions (e.g., international student = higher tuition for them to cover?) that I wasn't privy to.
Tolman's Rat Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 From Canada as well...have heard about 2 US interviews at this point (one for a Dec 1 deadline, other for a Dec 31 deadline). Haven't heard back about funding yet (awaiting one response today, other was an "unofficial" interview invite that won't be made official until the department meets next week). The official interview invite indicated that I could interview via Skype or phone if unable to make the interview weekend, so I'd imagine that would similarly be the case for overseas applicants.
Schizo-Neuro enthusiast Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 International applicant here. Playing the waiting game. So far I have had one rejection from Yale.

I was wondering whether I could pick your brains a little being an international student, albeit a little different to my situation but international nonetheless. Did you find out about interviews at relatively the same time as other candidates? Or were you not aware of this site when you were applying? Just curious to know whether international students are considered separately
cw01 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) International student here as well! But I'm at a US undergrad institution though so my situation might be very different. But I have heard schools who invite international students from very far to interview. I think generally international students are put in a different pool than domestic students but I'm curious about international students in the US...Anyone have an idea? Are international applicants notified later than USA based applicants?

Just curious to know whether international students are considered separately Sorry, it was long enough ago that I don't remember... but in both cases the interview was a weekend where all candidates came at the same time so that suggests everybody was considered together. If it matters, the schools were Northwestern and Dartmouth.
