bumbeetle Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi, im doing a thesis on gentrification. basically, there is this major renovation in a central district and so i was hoping to do a research to see if the renovation will move residents from the area out and move commerce in (because it means higher rent). (its a case study). i will be doing a research in the area to see the number of residential households before and after the renovation to see the effects of gentrification. anyways, what theories should i use? using theories section is mandatory and i have no clue what i should do. any help is greatly appreciated Roquentin 1
Between Fields Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 This probably isn't the best place to ask this question--do you have an advisor you can talk to?
uselesstheory Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Look up Sharon Zukin's publications on Google Scholar, as well as those citing hers. You'll find some helpful related theory, or at least content that will refer you to theorists.
rising_star Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Jane Jacobs wrote a paper in... 1990 (I think) that's a classic overview of gentrification. There's a ton of books and articles about gentrification, but you'll probably want to identify some that are particularly relevant for your case study.
