willbeans Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 So each official transcript envelope from my school has an address line on the transcript itself with a clear window on the envelope that shows the address. I, being the moron, accidentally tore open one of the envelope when taking out the staple that held the stack of envelopes together, making it no longer official. Now I'm applying international so Fedex is already going to take a few days with the deadline at the end of the month and the worst part is that my school's transaction time for official transcripts takes over a week. Luckily, I have another official transcript addressed to another institution that I don't need anymore. I've already begged my school's transcript office but they just told me that they are really backed up and I will have to fill out the paper work like everyone else. So I have a choice to make: Request another transcript but risk my application being late. Or put an address sticker over the clear window that has the desired address (the transcript itself will still have the wrong address on the first page ). Maybe there's a better choice? Please help out an idiot.
iphi Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Send the transcript. How big is the tear? If it can still be mailed as-is, do that. It is possible that they think that error is from mailing If not, send it anyway in another envelope. Then if they reply that they want an OFFICIAL one you can explain what happened and say you will send another one (or you can arrange to have a second one sent NOW and say it's on its way). willbeans 1

The tear is pretty big, like the entire side of the envelope is gone and the transcript can fall out. Do you think it's a good idea to send it along with another sealed transcript addressed to another school to prove that it was not tampered with? I have to put all my documents inside the same fedex envelope anyways.
iphi Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 If you are sending them to the same place, then sure. Is the same institution opening both? I would just attach a post it that says something like "oops, sorry!" to the open envelope. They can obviously verify that the two transcripts match. willbeans 1

I will attach a note.
iphi Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Perfect! Then I would definitely put something like "these envelopes were stapled together and when I tried to take the staple out it ripped. I am really, really sorry!". Hopefully they can see the staple mark in the undamaged one at least. But really if two are going to the same place I wouldn't worry too much about it at all.
