PsychEdStudent Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Hi everyone, I will be attending an interview day (just the one) in February. I am hoping to get some info and advice from people who have gone through interview days and know what I might expect. Also, the big thing is - what to wear (as a woman). What did other people wear to interview days you attended? I did see a topic on this before. Some people say suits, some more casual. I will certainly dress professional, but whether to wear a skirt or pants, etc I am not sure. The program i specifically am applying to is the Masters in Science in School Psychology at Northeastern University. If anyone has attending the interview day for this school specifically I would love some input. Also, to bring resume, writing samples, etc - and where do you keep a folder like that if you don't want a big purse or to carry it around looking silly? The help is appreciated!
MidwesternAloha Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 A skirt and pants are equally as professional when they are worn as a suit. I wouldn't wear a casual skirt - if you are questioning it, you probably shouldn't wear it. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a suit. As far as carrying folders and documents, invest in a briefcase or padfolio. If you carry a padfolio, you can also carry a rigid-sided SMALL purse or clutch. Something that will stand up when you set it on the floor. You don't need to carry a lot with you to the interview. If you want to shove a lip gloss in the purse or folio, it should fit. Everything else can stay in your hotel room.
PsychEdStudent Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Thank for the response! As far as a skirt, I was definitely thinking professional looking skirts. I have a black pencil skirt, but I'm not sure if it's too.. fitted to work. Unfortunately I do not have a suit of any kind and can't afford one. What I have are dress pants, a pencil skirt, and some "nice clothes". I can look professional but I am not sure I could afford a suit. I may be able to afford shopping for knew professional looking clothes if need be? Also, good tip on the briefcase or padfolio - will look into it for sure!
