CIPA Professor sent me an email

Hello,

I've applied to several MPA programs for fall 2015 and as many on this forum (I hope) for the last couple of weeks I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety / freak outs.

 

Today, a CIPA Professor sent me an email telling me he had just reviewed my application and that he found it excellent and was recommending me for admission (he marked copy to Jennifer Evangelista). I know this is a good sign and feel most excited but I don't want to get my hopes up so I'm trying to stay grounded in reality..

 

Is it normal procedure for Professors to email applicants in the US? Is it part of the school's admissions procedure? How certain of admission would you be?

It depends on the program's admissions process, but it is normal. I had a professor do the same, but the department is rather small so I sort of expected it.

As for certainty of admission, I wouldn't know at this stage in the process for you. One of my programs admits candidates into the graduate school first by faculty members forwarding your application to the graduate school staff. Then the department you applied to will make the final decision to either accept or reject you.

Other programs give you the final decision after prolonged silence from your application submission. It's all rather subjective.

That's what I needed to "hear" to get a grip. In my head I was already making plans and imagining life at CIPA and I shouldn't do that just yet.

Hi! Cong! I also apply CIPA master program. I was informed that my application was complete on 6th last month, but I haven't heard from its result until now. Are you international applicants? Good luck for both of us!

Haha, sorry but I'm just an American. Good luck to you both though! The admissions process is more harsh for international students than domestic students.

Hey dudeinspace, 

 

I'd think that a professor recommending you would have some bearing on your application. I got notified of my acceptance to CIPA a couple of weeks back, but I didn't really have a professor send out an email. If I were you, I'd still keep my fingers crossed and take this as good news.

I'm an international student and finished my application about the same time as you. CIPA was awesome about getting back to me within the 3 week timeline they prescribe. However, I haven't received any notification about funding yet, though they've told me that I am being considered for funding - so just waiting for news on that front.
