Hi all,

I'm an out of state applicant hoping to attend this program- however, I have heard they accept very few out of state students. Does anyone know what the chances are for someone like me? I'm really clueless about whether I could have a chance or not.

The LSU system is about to undergo massive budget cuts again, and is looking at shuttering many of its programs, and even outlier schools in the coming time. Just an FYI.

You know, you bring up a great point! I read about that I'm Nola.com- does anyone know if that will affect the School of Allied Health Professions? I know it will affect LSU Baton Rouge...

Question - I don't know how to post an actual forum question.. haha. But did you all hear back from every school that you applied to that all of your materials have been received? I'm not sure if some of my schools just don't send out emails saying everything has been received or if I need to follow up. I know it's a little late, but I'm abroad until first week of March & have been for a couple months now so getting in touch with schools has been a little difficult. Thanks!

Phoneme Fiend- I received confirmation from some schools, others I had to call and find out. Definitly worth an extra few minutes to check and see!

Britt-  when you called was everything alright? I just can't call because I don't have international calling, only texting. There's no reason everything shouldn't be alright, I just thought of that & had a mini-freakout, haha. Just nerves before decisions come out I suppose.

Britt,

I applied here as well.  No word either way has been received.

Britt,

Yes, I am.  I went to their open house back in October and I believe I was one of two people visiting from out of state.

Many of the schools I applied to said that they typically send word right before Spring Break (3/16-3/20).  I have only heard back from one school I applied to, as it had the earliest due date.

That is good to know (especially since many schools require you to respond within a couple of weeks about your decision). What did you think about their open house? I did not go, but I wish I had!

I really loved it.  Excellent program, great people.  Definitely my top program pick.

That's really good to hear! I'm glad I applied. Do you mind sharing your stats? I'm not sure what is expected for this program.

With all the first year students I spoke to, I asked them and they had anywhere from a 3.3 to a 4.0 and seemed to have about a 297-310 on GRE.  I did just speak with a handful though.  I know you spoke about being out of state possibly being an issue, but I don't think it would be.  They are so personable and just as with many other schools that have undergrad programs as well, there were a handful of grads from Baton Rouge and also some other surrounding areas, but it just seemed like they were the majority that applied.

As this is my second year to apply to grad schools, I tried to improve my GPA and GRE.  They spoke on how they look at GRE, GPA, your recommendation letters and personal statement when considering applications.  Any program you apply is going to be highly competitive as we are such a rapidly growing profession. I've been told persistence and determination can pay off, so I'm praying all this work I've put into the past year will work.

I read up on this program and before I decided to apply and go to the open house and it seemed like a very strong, quality program.  I tried not to rank schools, as I am probably not the most appealing candidate on paper, but after the open house and speaking with about 3 of the professors, I'm pretty sure I not only fell in love with the program, but everyone involved with it.  They have some very unique opportunities and very knowledgeable professionals.

It's nice that they have a range of GPAs and GRE scores- that makes me think that they look at everyone individually, and not as numbers! :) I really appreciate the I input; I'm pretty unfamiliar with the program! I have, however, heard similar things to what you're saying- that it is a good program, and that everyone genuinely likes it.

I should warn you, though- I have heard that they only accept 10% of their incoming students from out of state. I heard this in the context of their loyalty to in-state students (although it may not be true).

Good luck! I hope we are both accepted! I think we should be hearing relatively soon!

Thanks! Me too.  Where else are you applying?? Anywhere else out-of-state?

Oh wow! I almost applied to Tuscaloosa, but I applied to UTHSC, U of A and a handful of Texas Schools.
