As I'm sure a lot of people on here are, a lot of the programs I'm applying to are all over the country. I have heard back from 3 schools and have no funding information. I'm wondering if others think it is worth it to attend the admitted student days/visit days/whatever else they are called. If I decided to attend any of these it would involve a flight and hotel room - do you guys think it's worth it to go sooner rather than later? I probably can't afford to go to a school that would require moving and out-of-state tuition if I don't receive some kind of financial aid so I'm not sure if I should visit until I know that information.

Hi there. If there's a school that you're determined to attend regardless of whether or not they fund you, I'd go to that school's visit day. But then again, you'll have plenty of time to ask questions and tour the campus and all that jazz once you know for certain that you're attending. You know? It's kind of like a lot of expense when you don't know what they're offering you. But if you know you're going to a particular school no matter what, then it would be good to get out and see what the living situation is like and such...things you can use the spring and summer to prepare for. Hopefully you'll get some information pretty soon...good luck!

Aren't the programs funding your attendance to the prospective student events?  I've only been to one but they did.  If they are, I'd go to the schools you are interested in attending and worry about PhD funding later.
