TXInstrument11 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I may not be able to collect enough participants by the deadline. Do you think delaying graduation in order to collect these participants is a wise move? I am worried about my schools revoking my acceptance if I tell them. I will otherwise receive all As in the rest of my classes. The thesis is tied into my graduation requirements now if I want full honors, but I could technically graduate with my degree without it. mb712 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I've been wondering the same thing. As long as my acceptances don't depend on a May graduation instead of August graduation (which I didn't see a caveat about but I haven't specifically asked), I almost want to stick around my undergrad institution and take a class or two over the summer. Edit: I looked at my offers and it seems like a diploma by enrollment date is the only specified requirement. "We are confident you will be able to fulfill these requirements before enrollment." The only problem now is that my graduation date would be the weekend after I'm supposed to be on campus for one of the schools. I'm not sure if that matters though since the first couple weeks are orientation and training? Hmm. Edited March 15, 2015 by mb712
rising_star Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 As long as you've graduated before you start, you should be fine.

I believe my graduation will also fall in orientation week. Maybe we could fly back real quick for one day and then come right back? Expensive, but maybe it would be allowed. If push comes to shove, I'll tough it and just receive my diploma in the mail. () I really, really don't want to because it is very important to my family, especially my aging grandma who may not live to see another kid in the family graduate. However, I know they will also support my decision to do so if absolutely necessary - which would actually serve to make me feel even more douchey.
TXInstrument11 Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) As long as you've graduated before you start, you should be fine. Thanks. I may ask a grad student at UIUC from my home institution (my lab, actually!) who I can probably trust not to blab. Or call the poor grad secretary yet again. That poor woman. I will be the death of her. Edited March 15, 2015 by TXInstrument11
rising_star Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Don't call the grad secretary or ask another student. Call the Grad Admissions Office and ask them directly since it's their rule you need to comply with. But, in all seriousness, I delayed my MA graduation from May to August and no one cared because my degree was conferred before the first day of classes for my PhD program. In fact, I don't even think I ever told any of them. I finished my thesis on time and was all set to graduate when the dept chair called me in and offered me a summer TA position, which I took so I could use the money to pay for the move to my PhD program.

Oh, wow. And good point - I'll call the admissions office instead.
