Thinking About Getting MPA

So, I am really interested in getting my MPA w/ a concentration in non-profit management. I have a BA in Journalism and tons of non-experience from a volunteer prespective. I was a grant writer for a small time in the summer a couple of years ago. Anyway, I just now starting to do my research and am seriously looking the GWU and NYU MPA programs.

Does anybody have the inside scoop on what these schools are looking for in prospectives. My G.P.A. is not that great 2.8, I work for the Fed Govt right now, and have had a couple of non-profit volunteers gigs, also was student leader on campus.

Any advice on how I can make my app shine?

P.S. Haven't taken GRE yet, studying now, any idea what these two schools are looking for in terms of scores?
