oulfis
I've applied to an Ertegun scholarship to Oxford, which will be pretty key to my ability to actually attend Oxford if I get in (that decision is coming "in late March") -- but they don't notify unsuccessful applicants!! From past years, it looks like they do interview applicants some time in March -- so if I don't get an interview when other people do, I'll know I'm out of the running. I have an excellent offer from the University of Toronto, and they want my answer April 1. Has anybody else applied to the Ertegun scholarship? Have you been contacted for an interview?? Put me out of my misery!
fudge_faerie
I applied to Ertegun and haven't heard, but I have an independent source of funding for the MSt anyway. Best of luck though! Which course did you apply for?
L13
I also applied for the Ertegun and have not heard anything. I suspect they've already extended invitations for interview to all the shortlisted applicants.
kantbook
I got accepted to the BPhil on March 9th but have not heard from Ertegun or Clarendon yet. I didn't even know they did interviews.
Shiji E. Moji
As far as the program website says, Ertegun applicants are judged based on their application and supplemental information provided when they applied by the relevant Jan deadline. There is no mention of interviews. I would think, if interviews were a part of the selection process, it would be on their website. Anyway, if they do interview (without saying anything to applicants), I sincerely hope it's to determine between toss-up candidates, and not for the majority. Otherwise, I think that's an unfortunate bit of of information not provided to applicants. I could be wrong, but I don't think getting an interview or not means anything at this point. L13
They certainly interview. If you google around, you'll find posts by winners and shortlisted candidates from previous years, on this forum and elsewhere on the internet, talking about their interviews. Apparently the awarding body is required by the university/the terms of the scholarship to interview all winners before officially giving them the scholarship. Shiji E. Moji
Well, then! Good luck to those of us who haven't heard a thing? [Edit: After rereading your last post, L13, it sounds like winners should be notified between now and the next week, and THEN there are interviews. Upon a successful interview, applicants are "officially" announced? Does this sound right? The whole thing sounds weird to me.] Edited March 24, 2015 by Shiji E. L13
No, no, it seems they contact people for interview in mid-March and already have a good idea of who's going to get it and who's not, meaning that it's a short shortlist. Last year they interviewed in the week before March 23. Obviously the process might have changed or I may be misinterpreting the fragmentary info available on the internet, but I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get the Ertegun out of the blue in April, without being contacted by them first. Smokydog
Hello! I have been a lurker here for a long time. I got an offer for the Dphil in History at Oxford. I contacted the Ertegun Programme asking about decisions some days ago and I got this email today: I am sorry to say that the selection committee met this morning and you have not been successful on this occasion, as this year we received a huge number of outstanding applications. That is not to say that any other scholarships you have applied for at Oxford have been unsuccessful too - I would recommend contacting them directly as you have done with us. Sorry if this is not what you wish to hear but I wish you all the very best with your future academic career! Best wishes, So well. It seems that the Ertegun admits will be hearing soon, if they haven't been contacted by now. Best of luck!
2544928
Newest post by the Ertegun Scholarship Programme on their website: http://www.ertegun.ox.ac.uk/news-events/ertegun-scholarship-awards-2015 Awards for 2015 Ertegun Scholars are currently being decided. All successful applicants will have been notified by 30th April 2015. Due to the high volume of applicantions we receive it is not possible for us to contact all unsuccessful candidates, so if you have not received an offer by the above date please assume you have not been successful on this occasion.
