Dear applicant,

Please note that the review for admissions to our MS program is currently underway. Those who indicated an interest to be considered for the MS program will be reviewed on a space availability basis. Therefore, not all of the applicants can be considered.  This year, the applicant pool has been extremely competitive.  The decision might be made as late as August 2015.

If you have other options, we highly recommend that you exercise one of those options.

Sincerely,

Computer Science Graduate Admissions
Stanford University

The above is the letter I received mid-february. Will they actually take until August to reply or are they done with the MS admission process?

I know at least some PhD rejects have been offered admission to MS and some with full financial support.

Will they acknowledge the rest of PhD aspirants who also opted in for MS consideration or do we already stand rejected ?

Sounds like a rejection, and like they would only admit you if one (or more, depending on the size of the queue) person backs out well after the 4/15 deadline.

No I have not been in touch with the admissions office.

"Therefore, not all of the applicants can be considered."

This statement is what I think is important. Maybe we were not even considered and hence need not be notified.

If we can establish that atleast some candidates have received separate rejections both for PhD and MS, we might be on the waitlist; otherwise we are toast.

Same boat as you guys :(

I really wonder if they're going to take until August or even if we're going to be notified.

Indeed, it would suck if we won't be notified.

I saw a post on the admissions board of a PhD reject who was admitted to funded MS (the same time bulk admits and rejects for Stanford were posted). So I think the fact that we haven't received any notification most likely means we are not being considered.

Don't take any chances. Take your existing Phd/MS offer rather than waiting for Stanford. I think the message is pretty clear that if they didn't send out acceptance, most likely it means rejection.

Even if you are lucky enough to be accepted, that would be too risky since most school require response by April 15th. Unless you are hardcore fans of Stanford, I suggest not waiting for the end result.
