Can a quantitative score on the low side be compensated by good scores on other sections

So my scores are fairly balanced 163V 161Q and 4.5A. However I am a math/stat major (3.62 gpa) applying to quantitative Statistics programs. The average Quant score for these programs is probably ~163 but the verbal scores are usually around 155. I'm not applying to Ivies or top 10, except maybe Columbia Stat but that's not even close to my first choice anyway.

In answer to the title question - if applying to quantitative programs, a low Q score can hurt you whether the others are good or not.

In the specific case, I think your 161Q is fine. It's still 80th percentile, so that's not too shabby. I think you'll be above any minimum cut offs.
