soccerwiz90 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 Hello Everyone, Just looking for some advice on PhD's in political science for non academic careers. I am torn if I should accept my PhD offer because Iv'e gotten a lot of feedback from some of my professors that academic jobs are diminishing (less tenure positions, too many PhD applicants). That a pursuing a PhD right now in political science may not be the best option as it is really not like it used to be. I was wondering everyone's opinion on this pursuing a PhD? Is everyone interested in academic careers?
victorydance Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 I will say this: if you want to increase your chances of getting a job in academia, you will want to go to a better university that Queens. MAC2809, soccerwiz90 and law2phd 2 1
Elekatana Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 You could work for any number of NGOs and IGOs, most notably the United Nations, NATO, Interpol, just to name a couple. Or you could work for any level of government in your country. Public Servants get good pay, I hear. I personally think Queens is in the top 5 of Canadian universities...
GradSchoolTruther Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 You could get a job with the U.N., but don't bank on it, unless you can be an unpaid intern. soccerwiz90, AuldReekie and rwillh11 2 1
Authorization Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 "Think Tank" NGOs might be a good option to look into depending on your focus.
