UCLA v/s UMN TC for MPH ( epidemiology)

Hi . I am an international student . I have received admission offers from UCLA and UMN TC. Everyone seems to think that UCLA would be a better option, what with its international ranking and all. The programs at UmN tc and ucla are more or less similar.Ranks 8 and 10 are not significant enough to make a choice i guess. Everyone cites the harsh winter of minnesota as a discouraging factor. But otherwise I don't see any harm in going there. Could you tell me why I should choose ucla over umn , if at all. I have been admitted to the epidemiology program at both schools. Ive been told that assistantships are generally offered in the second year at ucla. I like the internship program at ucla. But as an international student im worried about my career prospects. Ive been told that minnesota is a healthcare hub plus it is affiliated to the mayo clinic and Mnpls is home to 18 fortune 500 companies so all in all it may be better than ucla. Im not sure about any of this. I would love to know about your take on this. I have been to california once and like most tourists i loved it . I reside in mumbai, india and pyschologically being close to the ocean would make me happy :P Which school should I choose and why?

I honestly doubt the quality of education is meaningfully different between the two.

Personally, I didn't think the winters in Minnesota were that bad, but I'm from that area. I do not deny that it get quite cold, but the homes there are well insulated, the campus buildings are connected by a tunnel system, and downtown Minneapolis is connected by skyways. It does have a huge advantage in that the cost of living is far lower than Los Angeles. This also means you'll be able to afford a nicer apartment that is better maintained. The Twin Cities is a healthcare hub, most of it is due to the presence of biomedical engineering firms, otherwise there's some large health insurance companies, plus the Mayo clinic (as you said). Outside of Minnesota, I would expect the graduates of UMN to be able to find work in Wisconsin (Milwaukee) or Illinois (Chicago). Being a Big 10 university it is a name that is known throughout the US, so you'd have good career prospects elsewhere as well. Of course, this assumes you want to find a job in the US. If you're not looking for that, it doesn't really matter if the surrounding city is a healthcare hub or not.

I don't know much about California, especially not first hand. I do know that UCLA has good name recognition and that California is a biotech hub.

Thank you so much . This makes my decision even more difficult . Both seem to be so good that I am unable to take the call. Besides i rejected Darmouth so i want to select wisely now .
