GeoMex Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Hi all! I want to know if any of you have some general ideas about how to approach the coursework and project planning with my advisor. I was recommended by a colleague that just finished his PhD. to do it asap since for some reasons (with my company) I need time to prepare it before starting the semester. Should I ask him directly about what he thinks would be the best course of action for me to take, or should I present my ideas first and then ask what he thinks about them? I don't want him to think with the first option that I don't have any plannification done, but also I don't want to force any of my ideas and limit what his advice as an expert could bring into my project. Any thoughts? Thanks!
idiochromatic Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Get in touch with your advisor. I don't think it really happens very often that a student proposes a project and the advisor signs off on it completely, it's usually more of a negotiation between student and advisor based on funding and other resources. Follow your advisor's lead

Follow your advisor's lead Yeah, I was waiting for a response from my mentor from the company but since he didn't answer and I was already exchanging emails with my advisor for other reasons, I asked him and now I'll wait to see what he responds.
