Magpie J Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Hi everyone, I am starting grad school in the fall, and have been trying to brush up on the core concepts I've learned in the past two years of leveling coursework. I found a great resource for this, and wanted to share. It's a NESPA exam prep book, and it only cost me $10 on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Celeste-Roseberry-Mckibbin-Speech-Language-Preparation-Comprehensive/dp/B008UYL9D0/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1433867368&sr=1-8&keywords=advanced+review+speech It's an older version (which is why it's so cheap), but the vast majority of the content will be the same, so it's perfect for review. The chapters are broken up into content areas (Neuro, Artic, Language development / disorders, assessment, etc.) and each chapter includes a content review and some practice questions. It has been very helpful so far! The only disclaimer is that this book is a HUGE hardcover, so not something you can just carry around in a bag/purse. Enjoy! lore3027 1
ell012 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Thanks for the tip! I finished my leveling courses a year ago and have been working on other prereqs ever since, so I've been really nervous about how behind I will feel in August. I ordered this yesterday and am really excited for it to come in so I can start reviewing
JustJay Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Awesome! I've been looking for something like this to help me brush up before school in August. I've been out 2 years so I'm a little nervous
Rosetea93 Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 This is a great book and the author is wonderful. A 4th edition, sort of pricey, is soon to- be-coming-out and is going to be great review(no endorsements here, but I have taken courses from Dr.Roseberry-she is amazing!)! Additionally, the new book is up-to-date on information that will be found on the Praxis exam we have to take after we complete the program. She actually personally takes the Praxis exam several times to ensure that her book is full of information that will be on the test and useful for clinical practice! If you can afford the new book, it will definitely serve you well. If not, the older edition is probably pretty relevant still! Thanks Magpie J!!!
ell012 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Just have to thank you again, Magpie J! Mine arrived today and it is a really wonderful review. The content is well organized, it's easy to understand. I had been planning to just peruse my old school books before the semester starts but I could see how that would get really overwhelming really quickly. If anyone is on the fence about this book, take the plunge!
kayyyyy_ Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I ordered this book and just got it as well! I love it.
Magpie J Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 You are most welcome! I'm really glad that you are finding it helpful as well. Its been such a great refresher! Best of luck to everyone in grad school!
