kaschnip Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I am looking to go into the SLP profession but first need to get a grad degree. I am nervous in applying because I have a low GPA from College. Saint Anselm College in NH is notorious for grade deflation. I am a really motivated student and I think that I could prove my case in a letter. I still don't know if I should even apply. Are my odds in my favor or not? What to do??? Does anyone have any suggestions?
timberlake Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 You need to be a little more specific to get the best advice. What's your exact GPA? What's your degree in? Do you have any relevant experience? GRE scores? Have you done any prerequisite classes?
hopefulspeechie16 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I'm in the same situation as you, going to a college known for grade deflation. Is this something worth explaining in a personal statement? I just don't know how we can prove our case.
kaschnip Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 Exactly my question...is it worth applying if I am starting at a disadvantage? @speechie94 @timberlake I am planning to take the GRE at a later date. Do you think a good score may balance out a low GPA? I am around a 3 from a private NE Catholic college.
jpiccolo Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 A lot of it might just depend on the school. Unless you have amazing experience and high gres don't apply to the top ranked schools. Start looking at different schools and what they accept. If they don't have average scores on their website call or email and ask for them or what your odds are with your gpa. It's not impossible. Just takes some research to apply to the right schools that you have the best shot at.
