TheGuy91 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Hello everyone. I'm an international student. I need your help to anticipate my chances of getting admission into Texas Tech for MS in Mechanical Engineering for the term of Fall 2015.My Profile:BE Mechanical Engineer - 2015CGPA - 7.41 out of 10 (Distinction Class)IELTS - 7.5 BandsGRE - 166 (Q) , 145 (V) , 3.5 (AW)Three Favorable LORsIn addition, I would like to mention that I've been rejected from University of Southern California, University of California, Irvine & California State University, Long Beach for the same program with the same profile. I don't know why I couldn't get into CSULB, could anyone of you tell me please? Also, how much time does it take for getting the admission decision after all required documents are submitted at Texas Tech. I applied too late, but Texas Tech offers Rolling Admission. TheGuy91 1
shinigamiasuka Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Your V could be a little too low for these unis; try 150 at least or above. I'm not sure how a 10-point GPA scale works, so can't comment on that. Review and reevaluate your SOP. This could be one of your weaknesses. Does your resume/vitae contain at least some research experience? Are you sure the LORs aren't just general ones some professors give, but proper ones that bring out your strengths? Try contacting the grad admissions offices and see if they help you get a better idea/direction. And finally, we can only help offer advice on how to make a stronger case for yourself, and point to possible weaknesses; we're not adcoms so we can't provide any evaluation with full certainty.
Texan_Air Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 As a person who also applied to Texas Tech Mechanical Eng. M.S. and got accepted for Fall 2015, I would say you have a great possibilty of being accepted. Texas Tech is not a very tough school in Mech. Eng. to get into. But as a Texas resident I would tell you to try University of Hoston or University of Texas at Arlington (favorite tour of the Texas schools)...I think their deadlines haven't passed but not sure...Or wait to apply for Spring for the bigger schools again. Here is a 2013 ranking for Mech. Engineering Masters: http://www.university-list.net/us/rank/univ-20131051.htm My stats to give you an idea: BS in Mechanical Engineer - undergradCGPA - 3.26 out of 4 (small school)GRE - 162 (Q) , 157 (V) , 3.5 (AW)Good LORs 2+ years of Industry Experience 1.5 years of undergrad research
