May I vent for a moment? Thanks.

I studied abroad for one semester in Scotland. I took three classes, which my home institution accepted with pass/fail grades. None of those classes gave me credit for my English major; they all counted as elective transfer credits. I did not have grades for those classes, only passing credit. On my home school's transcript, they show up as transfer credit, so most of the schools I'm applying to insist that I must have my Scottish transcript sent anyway. The Scottish school only accepts requests for transcripts by mail, accompanied with a check made out in pounds sterling. If my experience attempting to register for classes there is any indication of the way they deal with transcript requests, my transcript may or may not be sent by next June.

GAH!

For those of you who studied abroad, how are you dealing with the transcript issue?

you probably aren't the first and only ever international student who has needed a transcript! Calm down, call them (use skype cuase it's cheap) and ask. If you can understand the accent over the phone anyway. My UK transcripts were always free. But just give them a call and explain the situation and ask what you should do.

This definitely requires some planning ahead and/or some good acting skills. Here's your plan: First, get organized. How many transcripts do you need? Can they be sent directly to you (and then included in your application packets) or are you applying to some schools that demand transcript be sent directly? Organize and record this information. I had the same experience-- but i solved the problem by asking my Study Abroad program to make me a "Transcript" listing the schools, courses, and the grades and the contact info for the school. This way the study abroad program takes responsibility for attesting my grades. it worked for all of the schools i applied to...
