Getting published as a journalist

I'm actually an online product manager who would like to speak to journalists about their experience in getting published in newspapers/magazines for stories.

Without giving too much away, i'm potentially looking to start a service where journalists can potentially start to get noticed so that they can publish their work. I have an idea as to how this will work, but unfortunately I know very little about the industry to confirm whether or not this will work as a concept. I'm really interested in hearing about peoples experiences with how they get work and if they have difficulty in getting published.

What can you offer? You really need to know the industry if you think this service would help. Honestly, it wouldn't. There are plenty of outlets for people to publish. Quality of the work and editing an large issue, as well as writing for free devaluing journalism.
