Susie Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I'm applying for MFA Painting and am concerned about the weight of the resume. The schools say they are looking for candidates with a "high degree of capability", how much of this 'high degree' are they going to infer from my resume? I ask because I am an older student with few exhibitions and lots of unrelated work experience and I don't want to waste $1000 on applications if the schools are not going to take me seriously because I haven't shown enough.
brianmc Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I'm right there with you. I've been out of school bartending for 10 years and stacking work against the wall when I get it done. I have no time to network or attend openings because I always have to work when those things are going on.
nathancotephoto Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Well, was told on multiple occasions that related work is less important as shows and especially solo showings. Work speaks louder than anything else though. That opinion comes from lectures ive listened to and my own professors.
