thumbnail72 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 R.R. Reno has just posted his ranking of Graduate Programs in Theology/Religion in the journal "First Things". Here's the link: http://www.firstthings.com/onthesquare/2009/10/a-2009-ranking-of-graduate-programs-in-theology So the question is, do you agree or disagree and by what criteria is your answer shaped?
braun_braun Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I know pretty well these people... they talk about the 'one and unique theology', dismissing any other attempt to be critical: " Like so many Jesuit theology departments, Boston College has drifted from the excitement of the post-Vatican II era to the banality of contextual theology" The banality of contextual theology????? Come on... Is there any theology that it is not contextual??? To me the problem whith this ranking is that it pretends to be objective and unbiased when it is probably the most ideological ranking I have ever met.
Cardea Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Oooo. I think the opposite. He makes very clear that he is thinking more in terms of a commitment to something like serious Christian orthodoxy. I think the bias is implied.
Thanks4Downvoting Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I think I'd have to agree with Braun_Braun' assessment of Contextual Theology. That being said, this ranking is great if you have the same slants as the author. However, if you don't, it just comes across as extremely biased. I tend toward the latter.
