zeldacrash Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Hey does anyone know how the Master of Liberal Arts program at University of Chicago is considered by the academic world? As far as I can tell it seems like a legit master's program, but I would definitely want to pursue a PhD afterwords and if this program isn't considered a normal master's program I wouldn't want to do it. Does anybody know anything? Also, i think Northwestern has a similar program- any advice/info/warnings would be greatly appreciated.
michigan girl Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Most Master of Liberal Arts programs are cash cows. I would not pursue one if you receive no funding. I heard that the UChicago master's program can provide some flexibility if you know what you want to do career-wise. I still say, proceed with caution.
BryanJ Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I don't know about those schools in particular, but to me, a Master in Liberal Arts/Studies is as useless as a Bachelor degree in Liberal Arts (in terms of getting a job after graduation). I've gotten a couple emails about getting a Masters in Liberal Studies from some schools because of the GRE referral service and I've been underwhelmed by the usefulness of the degree. Just my opinion
