Poustevnik Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Hi all,It seems to be a very common thing to contact POIs in regards to STEM subjects, and things like sociology, psychology, etc. But I was wondering if people think it is a good idea for English? In the UK, this is pretty much the done thing (as you work with one supervisor throughout the three years), but I understand the system is different in the states and you won't necessarily be working with anyone specific in the first few years before building your exams committee. What are people's advice on this subject? Worth emailing in to POIs for English lit, or not worth the time?
knp Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 If nobody responds in a couple of days, you might have more luck posting this in the "Literature/Rhetoric and Composition" forum. That's where many of the posters who would know hang out.
Dr. Old Bill Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) Absolutely. There was a good thread about this last year that sums up a lot of the reasons why.So long as you have a reason to reach out, and so long as you have something worthwhile to say / ask, it's a-ok to contact a POI.
