Inthecage Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I haven't paid on my undergraduate student loans. One was federal, which I maxed out, and another was private. Am I still eligible for a graduate school federal loan?
ace589 Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Check the conditions of the private loan you may have to start paying it back immediately. For federal check your maximum at the nslds website.
Inthecage Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 Will that affect my chances of receiving a federal graduate school loan? Or admission into a graduate program? Anyone have any experience with this?
Horb Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 It depends what you mean by "I haven't paid my loans." If you mean that you graduated and are in the 6 month grace period, it should be fine. If you mean you've made the required payments, but haven't paid them off, again, you should be fine. If you haven't been paying anything and they are going into default, you might not qualify because of a poor credit score. Graduate schools do not usually make decisions based on ability to pay for the program, at least not in my field.
