How do you know about the Rutgers kinbote? I certainly hope you're wrong about this. Seems odd that the schools would wait so long to send out rejection letters.

Seems odd that the schools would wait so long to send out rejection letters.

A lot of schools seem to wait until the end to send out rejection letters. There seem to be a few reasons for this--one is that programs contact you via phone or email a lot of the time when you're admitted, then have the official letter sent out by the graduate school, which tends to be slower in general. Another reason is that a lot of programs don't reject applicants until they have a good sense of how many applicants are going to accept their offers, so that they have a "back up" round.

In general, I've found programs to be pretty good about communicating decisions--if one has been made--if you inquire via email, though. I've received both rejections and acceptances in response to email inquiries. Ambiguous answers seem to mean a decision hasn't been made (either specifically or in general).

I'm 100% sure about Rutgers. I recently heard it from Dean Zimmerman, their director of admissions. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm sorry to hear your news, because I haven't heard anything. Despite your assurance, I cling to hope for the following reasons:

1. Somebody else indicated that he or she had found out about a rejection on the website today, and the website still gives my status as "No decision."

2. Even though it sounds like a round of offers has gone out, I suspect that there's probably a wait list or something, and I'm hoping I'm on it.

Please feel free to dash these lingering shreds of hope if you have further information, and thanks again for letting us know what you know.

I'm in the same position with Rutgers. The website says no decision on my application as well. I'm a little discouraged both by kinbote's post and by the fact that posts from the past two weeks seem to indicate that the waitlist has already been notified. Fingers crossed for both of us though.

As I just posted in the results, I decided to e-mail the grad program administrator, and she wrote back right away and told me that they made their admissions decisions last weekend and that I was not among the admitted. I guess they just haven't updated the website. I hope that my shreds of hope still apply to you and that you made the wait list.

Has anyone heard anything about NYU or Berkeley? I haven't seen any acceptances or rejections for either place posted in the results here. The only NYU posting is for a wait-listing on March 1. Last year, those accepted at NYU heard earlier than this. Do you think those accepted there this year are just keeping the good news to themselves, or is NYU taking longer to make its decisions this time around?

I haven't heard anything from NYU, Harvard, or Toronto. Has nobody heard from Toronto? I can't figure out how to check the results from last year, so if anyone has a sense of how long it took them to make up their minds last year, I'd love to know.

Since I posted that last query, I have heard from Toronto and Harvard, but only because I e-mailed and asked. If I hadn't, I'd still be waiting. Anyway, Harvard made its decisions a couple of weeks ago, and I was rejected. Toronto made its decisions last week, and I was rejected. I look forward to the good news from NYU, whenever they see fit to send it my way!
