ChasingMavericks
Is anybody else out there looking into CACREP accredited college counseling/student affairs programs? It's pretty slim pickins so I would love to hear where people are interested in going, etc. I'm still looking through the list, but I have some thoughts on schools of interest, but since I am completing a masters currently I'm hoping to find a program that I can get an assistantship so I won't have to pay for it, or at least not all of it.I want to be able to work in all aspects of student affairs, I love residence life, career services, freshman orientation, and student events just to name a few! I also want the ability to be a licensed counselor for students and to work in counseling centers/health services also. So that's why I decided to go for this degree. What made you pick college counseling/student affairs?
xSuperRaquelx
Im looking at just student affairs programs. I havet come across many that are counseling AND student affairs. Im applying to the University of Bridgeport and its a Masters in Counseling with a concentration in College Student Personnel. I think theres an option for taking extra credits in order to be eligible for licensure (but thats not my main focus).Im also looking for programs that offer an assistantship. I dont know if UB falls under that category, but Im applying anyway because my undergrad degree was in psychology, and with wanting to do student affairs, I though UB could potentially be a good fit. Which programs are on your list? What are you currently studying?
ChasingMavericks
Awesome to hear about your search! I've still been trying to figure out what exactly I need in a program, so I've only searched through CACREP so far. But I think I have finally figured out that I can expand my search and still be able to be licensed down the road. I have a wide range of interests so I want to have my bases covered. So confusing! Haha searching for schools is always so much fun It's just been a lot to think about, as I'm sure you understand.I'll go ahead and check out University of Bridgeport, it actually sounds like it might be what I am interested in as well. How have you been searching for schools? Google? NASPA?Right now I am working toward my Masters in Public Health in Health Education and Promotion, so I'm excited to be able to mix that in with a degree in Counseling/Student Affairs. So far I'm really interested in North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Minnesota State U. Mankato, and St. Cloud State University. I'm still doing a lot of searching though, so I haven't 100% decided on anything except for NCSU.
rising_star
I know Edinboro University has an accredited college counseling program, but I only know that because a friend went there. No idea about the funding situation.
ChasingMavericks
Yeah Edinboro is CACREP accredited, but so far it hasn't made the cut.

Minnesota is awesome I may be biased but have you checked out the University of Minnesota? I'm in their CSPP master's program (Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology) right now!
