bluefoxblue Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I have a Masters but it's from another PhD program (in Psychology) that I left because my advisor essentially did not want to do the kind of research I was interested in. Suffice to say, I was irate and we left on bad terms. A few years later, after working in the nonprofit research think tank world, I'm applying again for a PhD program (in Sociology) and have confirmed letter of recommendation writers lined up (undergraduate advisor and two former bosses, both of whom are social science PhDs). Is it bad not to have a LOR from my Master's/former PhD advisor?
rising_star Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I mean, it's definitely odd not to have such a letter. Is there anyone from your master's who would give you a positive recommendation?
doctor-to-be Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I don't think that this is bad. I understand how it can feel anxiety provoking. You certainly don't want to risk getting a poorly written letter. Just use your best contacts.
