emiliajulia Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Good morning everyone! I'm writing a SoP for University of Michigan's History PhD program, and it was recommended to me (by a non-academic source) to include the name of a close family friend and mentor in my application, who went to UM and frequently returns as a distinguished alum. He wasn't in my program, but a little name dropping never hurt, right? What are your thoughts?
Neuro PolarBear Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 If he doesn't have any relation to the History department, I wouldn't mention it.
TakeruK Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 At best, this will do nothing. At worst, it will hurt you.
emiliajulia Posted November 14, 2015 Author Posted November 14, 2015 Thanks a million, Miceroscopy and TakeruUK! I really appreciate the feedback.
