Dallas Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hi!!I am new to the Grad cafe but I am seeking advice from some people who have knowledge of graduate program admissions. I'm a sophomore in college right now and I feel as if my academic career is meaningless. I was recently sanctioned with an F on my transcript and a put on discplinary probation for making a bad choice (no indication of IA on my transcript). My friends and I sat next to one another during an Honors Orgo exam were caught cheating by looking at one anothers paper. I understand that i have done wrong and will do anything in my power to make things right from this point on. However, I do not know what is to come of my academic future. I am pursuing a biology degree and hoping to become a highschool teacher. Yet, I feel that I will never find a job with just a bachelors degree and feel that I will not get a job without goingto grad school which is seems impossible with the discplinary mark on my profile and the F. So I'm asking what is it that I would have to do aside from keeping my grades up to be able to get a graduate degree? My GPA was a 4.0 now 3.6 after this semester due to the F. I tutor and have over 500 of volunteering, also in 3 other extra curriculars. I dont want this bad choice to define who I am so please give me information on how to make this right.
ilovelab Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Is there a mark on your transcript? Would someone know that you got an F because you cheated?
Dallas Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Thanks for replying! There is fortunately no mark on my transcript however there is one on my academic profile. I will hopefully/most likely get my profile expunged when I graduate as well. I am really just worried about any application asking for discplinary probation reasons and stuff like that. I understand that I must be honest about everything.
dr. t Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) Yeah, it might sink you on some applications. Even without a mark on your transcript, explaining the F won't do you many favors, and not explaining it has its problems, too. Plus, if I see an F on a straight-A transcript, I can guess what happened. Maybe the adcom will care, maybe they won't. Nothing much you can do about it now, though. Your actions have consequences that you can't "make right". You just have to live with it. Edited November 18, 2015 by telkanuru
