MeaningfulLife Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Hello! I'm a third year recently thinking of going into Psychology! I know that counsellors and therapists are mandated with a CCPA for which we need an MeD? And with an MA, one is called a psychological associate and with a Phd a psychologist. Can you call yourself a psychologist with an EdD? I wanted to ask you for insight from your experiences: 1) Which route did you decide to take? Why? 2) Do you like to work in research? Is research only necessary for the MA route? 3) Is it easier to find a job with one or another? 4) If you had advice for a young person going into psychology, what would it be? 5) Do you like what you are doing now? Thank you!

Can you call yourself a psychologist with an EdD? According to the College of Psychologists of Ontario: "Psychological associates have completed a masters level degree in psychology (e.g. M.A., M.Sc., M.Ps., M.Ed.), which is then followed by four years of experience working in the scope of practice of psychology. Psychologists have completed a doctoral level degree in psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., D.Psy.) which typically includes a one-year internship." So as long as your Ed.D. is in the area of psychology, you can call yourself a psychologist.
FacelessMage Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 My mentor is a practicing psychologist with an Ed.D. I also know a few psychological associates who do clinical work with the Master's degree, although it is more limited in scope I believe.
